Brooklyn science writer Emily Anthes writes in Slate this week that studies in recent years show that as many as 10 percent of men report moderate to severe depression after they become fathers (compared to 14 percent of women.) Which really is nothing when you consider the stats examined by Jennifer Senior’s fascinating cover story this summer in New York Magazine, “All Joy and No Fun: Why Parents Hate Parenting,” which suggests that parents are pretty miserable compared to their childless peers.
Dog on. Hmf. Well, not to worry. If you are depressed, there are plenty of artistic, cultural, musical, family and outdoor events coming up to cheer you. Stay posted.
