Kathleen Squires at Newyork.com has written a fascinating piece about Williamsburg’s very famous 126-year-old steakhouse, still considered the best in the city.

Some tidbits — the place is now run by women, who have selected the meat since the 1950s — and the restaurant doesn’t accept credit cards because it finds them “inappropriate.”

Funny I thought this Brooklyn phenomenon of not accepting plastic had to do with avoiding the costs charged by the credit companies — and perhaps giving shop owners a little flexibility when reporting how much they sold that month…. but maybe I’m being cynical.
