The fate of Long Island College Hospital on Henry Street at Amity is still in flux, as doctors, staff, the hospital workers’ union and SUNY-Downstate, which owns the hospital, continue to battle in court.
Thursday a judge granted a reprieve to staff at the hospital, saying SUNY must keep residents and other workers employed for the time being.
The New York Daily News is reporting that the State University of New York, which owns Long Island College Hospital on Henry Street at Amity Street and Pacific Street, has been approached by six bidders looking to buy the hospital. Doctors and the union say they’ll continue to battle any closure of the medical facility. The News reports the hospital was losing $1 million a week when SUNY announced it would close LICH in January, and that bidders may be eyeing the $1 billion property for condos.
