Sonic Treats: Blood Orange

By Lisa M. Collins

This week Kossouth reviews the new album of Blood Orange: Coastal Grooves. Blood Orange is the band name of musical artist Devonté Hynes, who’s also known as Lightspeed Champion. Hynes is a blisteringly talented guitarist and musical composer (if you need a song to get addicted to, check out Sutphin Boulevard). Hynes was born in Texas but raised in England. The composer, producer, writer and illustrator has also written songs for such artists as Florence and the Machine and The Chemical Brothers. He lives in NYC, performs in Brooklyn and is currently signed to Domino Records (where you can buy the album.)

Check out Dev’s blog:

And some of his awesome videos, which he plays behind him while he’s rocking live shows. Check this one of when Blood Orange performed as Lightspeed Champion, rocking a song in a laundromat in Paris (thanks to our friend Jen Ward for passing that along).

Hope ya’all enjoy this latest episode of Sonic Treats, in which brothers Reggie and Kossouth tip you to anything and everything music with a slant toward the Brooklyn scene.

See more in our “Music” section. Click the music tap on the top of the page there for more videos, more tips, more info. Kossouth also has a column, Beats to Peep.

Or click on our You Tube link on the top of South Brooklyn Post to see all our videos, short films and reviews….
