Rich Foreigners Prefer Public School

The French program at P.S. 58 has drawn families from all over, as have other such programs in NYC.

In Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill and Beorum Hill, we’ve seen this. Affluent couples who were born and raised overseas seem to prefer, or at least choose in large numbers, our local public schools. An article in the New York Times analyses data to show that foreign-born affluent parents (making over $150,000 per year) choose public schools at twice the rate of American-born affluent folks. They say it’s because they prefer the diversity and slice of real life not found in the private schools. Read on.
