Last week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security held the nation’s first test of the Emergency Alert System. The tests were called a “failure” in many states–folks didn’t hear the announcement in some areas, or see it on TV, and in other states, glitches occurred–a Lady Gaga song apparently played instead of the alert in Tennessee.
Tuesday, at about 10:30 a.m., a loud siren could be heard in Cobble Hill, followed by an announcement saying, “This is a test.” It was pretty spooky. Turns out it was an emergency alert test for the Brooklyn waterfront, conducted by Port Authority.
Of course, there was also someone walking down Court Street bellowing like a Macaw (pretty convincing Macaw actually), so who the heck knows.
