The Barclays Center — the new home to the N.Y. Nets NBA team — is flying up and is scheduled to open in September 2012. You certainly remember the fight to prevent the large office/residential development that was planned for construction along with the basketball stadium. Those battling the stadium were victorious, in a way, because while they lost their legal battle, the economy crashed, and the developers greatly reduced their plans for the site. Probably good considering we’ve plenty of traffic and not enough schools as it is without another colossal development. Another concern was shade that would happen when the towers went up. So, anyway—-if you’d like to follow more closely the development happening on the edge of Boerum Hill, Ft. Greene and downtown Brooklyn, check out Atlantic Yards Watch.
