The Commercial Observer is reporting that the Met Foods on Smith Street, between Baltic and Warren, is quietly on the market and is getting offers exceeding $20 million; which, according to the Observer, would “blow the market away” in terms of record-setting sales. The 10,000 square foot store would create a huge space for a luxury condo building with ground floor retail, and serve to further Manhattanize the Cobble-Carroll-Boerum area (Hills and Gardens? oh, how to avoid the ugly name of “Bococa”).
The Observer pointed out that last year, Brooklyn Magazine included that particular Met (they are all independently owned and operated) in a list of Brooklyn’s five filthiest grocery stores.
