East Village Losing Pre-Ks Due to Overcrowding

Pre-K is a luxury, not required by the state. So in city schools were there’s a bulge of kids in kindergarten and older grades, what do the schools do? They cut pre-K. It’s happening in the East Village, and many worry it will happen here in brownstone Brooklyn. Registration officials at P.S. 29 in Cobble Hill say that applications for kindergarten have been trickling in this year, so looks like parents in the Cobble Hill area are OK for the time being.
