Gasper Zerilli of Court Pastry in Carroll Gardens puts a secret ingredient into the custard and chocolate Italian ices, the key to their unusual, ethereal, somehow old-fashioned flavor. There can be nothing better on a hot day than slurping a mountainous $2 ice from Court Pastry. The recipes date back decades and always feature in addition to the chocolate and custard, a pistachio and lemon. Sometimes there’s a special such as banana or pineapple. Don’t miss out.
Zerilli has been working at Court Pastry since he was a child. His father, an immigrant, bought the shop in 1948, and the Zerilli brothers still bake pastries with butter on a pink marble table from Italy, in the shop since its opening in 1890.
You won’t find a better cannoli, and the macaroons are lovely.
