On the corner of Sackett and Columbia streets, in the Columbia St. waterfront district, some neighborhood gardeners have turned a vacant lot into the South Brooklyn Children’s Garden, which opened last August.
This Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the garden is holding a worm festival! Bring your kids and your compost-able stuff. Kids will learn all about compost and how worms are so beneficial to gardens — mainly, they eat organic material, and turn it into the best, nutrient-rich soil for growing food and flowers. Worms are used to compost — and kids will have fun checking out how it all works.
