The Carroll Gardens community is really pulling together to try to block a homeless shelter from going into a residential building on 9th Street — many saying that while they aren’t necessarily opposed to homeless individuals having a good place to live and living among us all, that the specific proposal to stuff 170 men into a ten-unit condo building sounds like an extremely poor and inhumane idea.
“The Coalition for Carroll Gardens” has sued to stop the proposal and the media has covered the proposal at length.
You can click on the coalition’s website to read more about the suit and the media coverage of the proposal. Currently a hearing is set for Jan. 25 on the matter, and the shelter cannot open until then.
