There’s a strange and disturbing story floating about in regards to an armed robbery that was reported as happening at the Blue Marble ice cream shop on Court Street on Monday evening. According to AOL’s local Patch affiliate, the Carroll Gardens Patch news website, the police are saying that the employee who was robbed posted the incident on Facebook and waited 30 minutes before calling the police to report the robbery. Blue Marble is denying that report.
Mainly, it’s worrisome that a Court Street ice cream shop would be robbed at gunpoint. Some $330 was reportedly stolen.
Last month, at the local 76th Precinct police meeting, another worrisome report came out, as the owners of the Sugar Shop candy store in Cobble Hill told police that they had been harassed and regularly robbed by a group of local 14- and 15-year-olds, and that they’d had to hire a security company to keep watch over the shop. Police said rival gangs in Red Hook were ordering kids to perform robberies in Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill.
South Brooklyn Post exclusively broke the news in November 2010 of a 40 percent spike in robberies around Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and the surrounding area. Now as then, Apple products especially iPhones are a main target. Local police Commander Schiff recommends that people download iCloud to allow the police to find phones if they are stolen.
