High-Stakes Testing: Panel Discussion

By Lisa M. Collins

There’s a lot of concern out there among parents and teachers about the continued emphasis on testing in schools, and how this testing is used to “track” kids and judge teachers and schools. To address this hot-button topic, a group of local moms from Brooklyn New School and PS 29 organized a panel discussion to discuss the issues.

MONDAY, MARCH 19 at 6:30pm — Education reporter Meredith Kolodner (Daily News, InsideSchools) will moderate a panel discussion. Panelists are: Shael Polakow-Suransky, Chief Accountability Officer of the NYC Dept. of Education; Sean Feeney, Principal of the Wheatley School and author of the New York Principals APPR Position Paper; and Elijah Hawkes, Former Principal of The James Baldwin Expeditionary Learning School. Q & A to follow.

Childcare and pizza starting at 6 p.m., with a $5 suggested donation. RSVP to rsvp@bns146.org

  1. Thanks for listing the panel.

Just for the record, the event has been produced by parents from Brooklyn New School (PS 146), Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies (MS 448), and PS 29. (Not wanting to leave anyone out–or falsely affiliate another institution that may or may not want that affiliation!)
