The one-hour presentation is geared toward kids, and has been known to draw celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker.
Every year, the New York Theater ballet, in midtown Manhattan, puts on a special production of the Nutcracker ballet geared towards kids, and it’s a perennial favorite. This year the production is getting some press — the company asked longtime choreographer Keith Michael to re-haul his classic production, and they’re calling the revamped show the “New” Nutrcracker.
Performances take place at Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street).
The holiday classic, set to music by Tchaikovsky, will be in the style of Art Nouveau – namely Vienna in the time of Gustav Klimt (sounds promising), and featuring sets by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith, and costumes by Sylvia Nolan (Resident Costume Designer of the Metropolitan Opera).
Opening night Dec. 9 will feature a special gala party for kids following the show, including a ballet class with the dancers, and wine and sweets for the adults. Show is at 6:30pm; party at 7:30 ($60 tix).
Guests are asked to wear festive attire.
