Beer, Food and Local Politics

By Lisa M. Collins

Saturday, Nov. 19, 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Kick-off the holiday season early at a Thanksgiving all-day event at 61 Local, with a wide selection of local and sustainable wines and foods, and a meet-and-greet with Carlo Scissura, who is campaigning to be our next Brookyn Borough President. 61 Local is a favorite of the city press for its soaring ceilings, exposed brick and repurposed beer-jug lighting, wooden seats and communal tables, as well as healthy local beer and wine selection. Nice place to pass the time.

A raffle will take place for prizes from Brooklyn food-makers, including Saxelby Cheese Mongers, Brooklyn Soda Works, KBBK Kombucha, BK Farmyards, Cut Brooklyn, Brooklyn Brine, Oslo Coffee, Mast Brothers Chocolate, and more. Reps from the companies will be at the party if you’d like to meet them.

Raffle starts at 1 p.m., and proceeds go to Scissura, a friend of 61 Local and the local food movement. Meet and greet with Scissura runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Email for details), and starting at 8, Scissura will be hanging out, and pints are $4.
