Lower East Side Ecology will collect your old electronics on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the schoolyard of P.S. 29, on Henry between Kane and Baltic streets.
The U.S. EPA says electronics contribute 70 percent of toxins to landfills, though they are only 1 percent of the volume. LES Ecology accepts laptops and desktops, servers, mainframes, monitors, printers, scanners, cables, keyboards, TVs, VCRs, cell phones, pagers, answering machines and more. They do not accept home appliances such microwaves, refrigerators, or air conditioners. To view more on recycling with the group and info for recycling things they don’t accept, visit this link.
Computer hard drives will be shredded onsite and recycled for a small fee. Confidential documents can also be shredded and recycled for $10 a box.
Also at the event, a rummage sale will take place. Bring kids’ and adults’ clothing and shoes, sorted by age. Wearable Collections, a group that recycles clothing, will pick up whatever isn’t sold including stained and ripped clothing.
