OK, so a tornado rips through Brooklyn in 2009, a blizzard shuts down the city over Christmas, an earthquake rattled us last week, and now, a hurricane? We half expect to see Will Smith walking down Court Street with a bazooka, covered in ashes. Let’s hope with Tropical Storm Irene, she stays at just that, a tropical storm.
But the U.S. Weather Service says the storm poses and “extreme threat” to the East Coast, and predicts the storm will hit NYC on Sunday, with high winds Saturday. Mayor Mike Bloomberg this morning urged residents to take precautions in case a hurricane does hit over the weekend. Gather important documents, stock some drinking water and cans of food, cash, and make a plan for what to do if the storm does hit. Get a phone to plug into the wall if power goes out, and make sure you know where your cell, laptop and camera are located (what on earth would we do without those items?)
