Save the Date: The 2011 Junior Summer Arts Program for children K-5 will run on a weekly basis from July 5 to Aug. 19 at Brooklyn Arts Exchange in the Gowanus area. Children are taught by professional artists and educators in circus skills, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, singing and other fun stuff.
Many programs are on a wait list, so call or email. Some classes have openings.

(drop off begins at 8:30 a.m. – late pick-up available until 5 p.m.)
Register for one week, mix and match, or register for all seven.
The Junior Summer Arts Program is made up of 60 children that are divided into two groups:
Jumping Tomatoes (30 kids entering grades K-2)
Hot Tamales (30 kids entering grades 2-5)
Children bring their own lunch. BAX supplies two healthy snacks.
Each group of 30 is staffed by a Group Leader, two Senior Counselors, two Junior Counselors and Arts Specialists. The program is administrated and supervised by Program Director, Andrew Jannetti, and the Education Department Staff.
Each week is focused on a different specialty. Lunch outdoors daily (weather permitting).
Circus camp includes juggling, clowning, tumbling, slapstick and physical comedy and is sure to tickle the funny bone.
In Movie Mania, young people direct, create and act in this fun and informative specialty. Basic camera operation techniques will be taught along with storyboarding and story development.
Each week culminates with an informal showing for family and friends.
Week 1: $290
Weeks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7: $360/week
(Note: register for 5 or more weeks and receive a 5% discount)
Annual Non-Refundable Registration fee: $35
Late Pick Up (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
$10 per day if paid in advance, or $15 per day if arranged after 3pm on Monday of each week. All Late-Pick Up fees are non-refundable and non transferable.
Half of the tuition plus the registration fee must be received to secure your spot. The balance is due no later than Tuesday June 1, 2011. Registration will be voided if payment is not received or postmarked by Wednesday June 1, 2011.
After Mon., May 2, 2011:
Cancellations incur a $50 cancellation fee per week, provided BAX can fill the spot with a full paying student. If spot cannot be filled all tuition is forfeited.
Registration fee is non-refundable.
Financial assistance is available on a first come, first serve basis. Scholarship applications can be downloaded here, or by request at the BAX reception desk.
