Grab Exhibit
Photo Courtesy of the National Museum of the American Indian
Check out the opening tonight (Wed., March 30, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.) of GRAB, at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, at Bowling Green in southern Manhattan. The exhibition of photos by Cybelle Codish (of Detroit, a fantastic photographer), and Tony Craig and Idris Rheubottom (of Brooklyn) documents an annual tradition in the village of the Laguna Pueblo, in which water and food items are thrown from a rooftop to people standing below, in a community celebration of thanks and renewal.
The photographers worked under the direction of filmmaker Billy Luther, whose documentary, Grab, was an official selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
