Fri., Mar. 18, 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.: The Six O’Clock Shadow Reading Series, curated by Rosemary Moore & Honor Molloy, will feature readings by Micahel Alenyikov, Louise Crawford, Honor Molloy and Rosemary Moore. At 8 p.m., the MARY HALVORSON QUINTET performs. Says Lars Gotrich, of NPR: Halvorson is the most future-seeking guitarist working right now, thinking out the instrument on a level most couldn’t comprehend. Halvorson’s compositions display that exploration with a telepathic connection between her fingers and the sound.†With Jon Irabagon (alto saxophone), Kirk Knuffke (cornet), Mary Halvorson (guitar), John Hébert (bass) & Ches Smith (drums). $10
At 10 p.m., SMOKEY’s ROUNDUP. Smokey Hormel is probably best known for his works with Beck, Tom Waits and his Brazilian project with Miho Hatori. He’s also been playing western swing for quite some time. His new project is inspired by the sounds of Milton Brown and his musical brownies and other Western Swing classics. With Smokey Hormel vocals and guitar; Charley Burnham – fiddle; Tim Luntzel – string bass; Andrew Burger – Drums.
All events carry a $10 (strongly) suggested donation, unless otherwise noted.
