So many places in Brooklyn don’t accept plastic that it’s almost The Brooklyn Way. I’ve lived her nearly five years and I’m still getting used to it, and still have to walk by some of my favorite shopping spots (Esposito’s, for instance) because I don’t have cash. How many times have you had to run to some cash machine at a bodega–stealing $2 from you every time–because someone has rung up your bill and you don’t have any greenbacks on you.
Are folks avoiding taxes? Some claim yes. Do they want to avoid the money shaved off every purchase in credit card fees? Absolutely.
Who’s to say if more places will follow now that Frankie’s is accepting credit cards. We’ll see.
