Fri., Mar. 11, 6 p.m. and Sat., Mar. 12: Pre-exhibit talk and Exhibit on New Typologies by Architect Jonathon Kirschenfeld. 0.00156 acres is pleased to announce Single Room Occupancy: New Typologies, an exhibition by architect Jonathan Kirschenfeld, principal of Jonathan Kirschenfeld Architects.

The exhibition showcases five innovative solutions to homeless housing projects in various New York City neighborhoods. It provides a platform for fresh thinking around housing prototypes and successful strategies for creating sustainable living environments for at-risk individuals. It also highlights how creative and innovative thinking brings comfortable solutions to an underserved and often overlooked population.

Through the examples displayed at 0.00156 acres, JKA illustrates its commitment and contribution to more responsible architecture and urban design. On an urban scale, all five buildings address the physical particularity of their lots by strengthening the street-wall, figuring common courts and gardens, and providing options for privacy and social interaction for their formerly homeless mentally-ill residents. Also they include environmentally sustainable amenities such as central heating and cooling fan coil systems, high performance exterior envelopes, energy efficient lighting and appliances, recycled and recyclable materials, and gearless elevators.

In addition to the exhibition, Jonathan Kirschenfeld will talk about Typologies of Social Engagement at 6 p.m. on March 11, at the Pratt Manhattan Campus, 114 West 14th St, NYC 10003.
