As part of an upgrade of the F/G lines, the MTA has cancelled Manhattan-bound F service from the Smith/9th Street station until May. Now riders down on south Court will ride the G to the Carroll stop, and transfer to the F.
The service stoppage is really a bummer for folks in Windsor Terrace and Kensington. The northbound F train is closed until May from 15th St.-Prospect Park West and Fort Hamilton, and is scheduled for a closure until March from these stations heading southbound.
In protest, City Councilman Brad Lander delivered 1,238 petition signatures to the MTA, to support an extension of the B68 bus line, while this segment of the F is closed. Lander proposes extending the B68 bus to 7th Avenue during the time the Fort Hamilton Parkway and 15th Street stations are partially closed. Lander, Borough President Marty Markowitz, Senator Eric Adams and Assemblyman Jim Brennan sent a letter to MTA Chair Jay Walder stating that users of these stations and residents of Kensington and Windsor Terrace are extremely inconvenienced by the closures.
The MTA has insisted that “back-riding” is the sole option for everyone. The B68 route runs along Prospect Park SW and Coney Island Avenue.
