61 Local Opens on Bergen

By Lisa M. Collins

61 Local, a beautiful beer garden and “public house,” with soaring ceilings, sanded wood and exposed brick, has launched its “soft opening” on Bergen Street. A more formal opening is coming soon.

I visited the other night. Good beer list, clean taps (no flat beer here, at least not yet) nice staff, great lighting, large industrial tables with clear-glass jugs emanating antique lighting hanging from soaring ceilings. The place uses the communal table, which seems to be a small craze around here (Brucie, Karloff) and adds to the casual hangout vibe. Somehow, despite the big tables, the bar has an intimate, almost romantic feel.

The eatery serves Sixpoint beer, wine and kombucha on tap, as well as bar foods including cheese-and-bread concoctions, featuring loaves from SCRATCHbread.

The bar is open from 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
