Local Street Artist Sues City

By Lisa M. Collins

Cobble Hill street artist, Ellis Gallagher, is suing the city for $1 million after the South Brooklyn police–at Precinct 76 and 84 (who cover downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, Gowanus and Red Hook) arrested him three times for drawing on the sidewalk with chalk, according to The Brooklyn Paper.

The paper says that on Sept. 2, Gallagher was arrested twice for chalk “graffiti” on Flatbush Avenue between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues.

Gallagher has now moved to Williamsburg with hopes of a more favorable response to his artwork from local police there.

Gothamist picked up the story.
