Jim & Andy’s fruit stand, on Court Street near Warren St., the tiny shop packed with all manner of fruit, vegetable, mushroom and spice, a holdover from the former Jimmy the Pedlar who walked the streets with a horse and cart selling veggies (until 1970), is packing up its fruit crates today and temporarily closing shop. The historic fruit stand is renovating, according to workmen at the site, and when it reopens, it won’t sell retail but will focus on wholesale, according to a source.
Jim & Andy’s Market is owned by Carmine Cincotta, son of Vincent, who was known throughout Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill as “Jimmy the Pedlar,” from his days from the 1930s to 1970 when he walked the streets with a horse and cart, selling fresh vegetables. Jim & Andy’s was a beloved neighborhood staple, selling all manner of fruits and vegetables stacked high in the tiny little shop.
