
Dumbo hasn’t much been in the news but some lovely, wonderful businesses down there were terribly flooded, we hope not beyond repair. The restaurant Governor — a critically acclaimed, beautiful, new fine cuisine eatery — had five-feet of water in the bar area, while Almondine French bakery/cafe and One Girl Cookies faced a deluge of waves; Powerhouse books was totally flooded out. As reported in Capital New York, the owner of Powerhouse prepared for an 11-foot surge; a 14-foot surge is what hit the area when the East River rose up over the bank.
During the storm, an amazing photo of a lit-up Jane’s Carousel, rising like a glass island surrounded by seawater, circulated around the web. Jane Walentas, the owner/operator, says the carousel is ok.
