Dumbo Hit Hard

By Lisa M. Collins

Dumbo hasn’t much been in the news but some lovely, wonderful businesses down there were terribly flooded, we hope not beyond repair. The restaurant Governor — a critically acclaimed, beautiful, new fine cuisine eatery — had five-feet of water in the bar area, while Almondine French bakery/cafe and One Girl Cookies faced a deluge of waves; Powerhouse books was totally flooded out. As reported in Capital New York, the owner of Powerhouse prepared for an 11-foot surge; a 14-foot surge is what hit the area when the East River rose up over the bank.

During the storm, an amazing photo of a lit-up Jane’s Carousel, rising like a glass island surrounded by seawater, circulated around the web. Jane Walentas, the owner/operator, says the carousel is ok.
