Perhaps you’ve heard the news. Actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and their three kids are said to be closing on two town homes in Brooklyn Heights, which they plan to turn into a 7,000 square foot manse with a very large yard.Â

The famous family currently lives in the West Village, where Broderick (of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off among many other film and Broadway productions) grew up. Their new home looks to be on State Street near Sidney Place (a block off Atlantic Ave. near Henry). Sarah Jessica Parker, know in some circles as SJP, of Sex and the City fame, is a papparazzi magnet, so it’s hard to tell what effect this’ll have on the very quiet State Street.
The news comes on the heels of other announcements, such as seeming confirmation that Momofuku Milk Bar is moving to Smith Street and 2nd Place, and the not-too-long ago opening of the Bourgeois Pig fondue and cocktail bar at Court and 1st Place. It all seems like a steady pace toward the Manhattanization of the Brooklyn Heights-to-Carroll Gardens area. A question remains: Will it ever be the same ’round here? Will we maintain all that we love about this area–in no small part that it’s a chiller, more relaxed version of city living so close to Manhattan. Or are we destined for mega changes as have happened in the village and Lower East Side? What do you think?
