Carroll Gardens photographer Kurt Dietrich Wilberding shoots up-close portraits of South Brooklyn Italian-Americans for his show, “Valentino’s Children.” The works are showing at the newish 0.00156Â Acres Gallery, on Smith between Dean and Pacific streets.
The lovely Milea Milea is featured in the show. I’ve met Milea on Court Street–though the photographer calls her by her nickname, Milly. You may have seen Milly on Court Street. She wears high-heeled black boots, sometimes thigh-high, big hats, and always, fake eyelashes and perfectly theatrical makeup. She told me she was a dress maker in Manhattan for decades. She always looks like a million bucks. She’s 95.
She’s one of many locals featured in the show at 0.00156 acres, an art space committed to emerging, mid-career and established artists whose works create awareness on social issues such as: immigration, urbanism, demographics, environment, education, health and politics. 0.00156 acres’ program comprises bi-monthly group and solo shows.
Veronica Mijelshon is a the curator, founder and director of 0.00156 acres. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mijelshon completed her architecture degree at the University of Buenos Aires. She is an art and architecture consultant for a private company in Manhattan.
