There is a big, grand new carousel in Dumbo, on the waterfront overlooking Manhattan: Jane’s Carousel. It’s a renovation of a carousel on the national historic register, and it is a sight to see. Rides are $2 and not too fast–pleasing the smaller kids more than the large. The carousel is surrounded by a large glass cube, protecting it from the elements, but also obstructing the view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the water, somewhat, in Dumbo. But overall it’s a great addition to the park down there. Right now the lines aren’t too long, but assume that when it warms up again this will be a tourist mecca.
David Walenta, a major Dumbo developer, and his wife, Jane, completed a renovation of the historic carousel after years of work. MSNBC has a nice article on the restoration.
