Now to July 10: Pins & Needles Musical Performance. Ten performances only. Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, with limited seats available.

Families United for Economic Equality and Freedom (FUREE) and the Foundry put on this historical musical. From 1937 to 1941 PINS & NEEDLES was a hit musical comedy revue running on Broadway, written for and performed by members of The International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union.

With songs by Harold Rome, ILGWU members sang for people fighting for jobs, housing, a minimum wage, immigrants’ rights and economic justice, and performed sketches that satirized the European fascists and the US right-wing reactionaries who rose up against FDR’s New Deal.  But that was a long time ago…

Fast forward to 2011 and a new comic adaptation of the  original Pins & Needles – by members of FUREE, performed in Brooklyn — and this time satirizing our own reactionaries.

Directed by Ken Rus Schmoll

Musical Direction by Richard Harper

Choreography by Camille A. Brown

Sets & Costumes by Arnulfo Maldonado
