Oh Sunny Day

By Lisa M. Collins

Tulips, greenery, spring flowers, movie-making in the park... great to be a New Yorker this weekend.

I hope you all enjoyed this weekend as much as I did. Some folks were making movies in Cobble Hill Park, the tulips were out, and the Court Street Festival brought out the masses from President St. down to West 9th.

Great thing to do with kids:

Today we rented bikes at South Street Seaport and rode all day long along the bike path that runs up the west side of Manhattan. It was gorgeous, and wonderful, and, unfortunately, a little pricey: the bike rental cost us $122, for a nice cruiser and a large bike connected to a Tag-a-Long (a small bike attachment that connects to the back of a bicycle, for little ones–they peddle and hold handle bars but the large front bike is doing most of the work, and stops and starts.)

We rented from Blazing Saddle. In addition to the Tag-a-Long attachment, they’ve got seats for little kids to ride in, as well as kids bikes. But the kids bike was too large for our 4-year-old.

All in all it was a very pleasant day. The bike patch runs all the way up Manhattan Island, up the West Side. It gets crowded once in a while with bikers and walkers/runners, but not too bad. Could be tricky for a biking beginner.

There are parks, playgrounds, and green spaces with grass dotting the way up. I saw many nice picnic areas and sitting areas that I had no idea existed. Highly recommended.

If you have tips for great things to do in the city when the weather is amazing like this, write in–let us know!
