Happy Pants to Re-Jigger

By Lisa M. Collins

Everyone’s favorite coffee shop, Happy Pants Cafe, the hangout for parents at P.S. 58 Elementary School just around the corner, and a beloved hangout where neighborhood new-comers rub elbows with Carroll Gardens old-timers is closing till Jan. 1 in order to re-jigger and present a new “concept” in the new year, according to the owners. Organic coffee and an expanded menu are on the horizon, and likely some higher prices.

The owners rent the space, and the current offerings weren’t producing much income, a little bird tells South Brooklyn Post. Prices will go up some but shouldn’t shoot up too far, the bird says.

This makes me very nervous, and one hopes Happy Pants doesn’t go the way of so many gentrified spots in the hood … good but pricey. Happy Pants was an oasis, an escape from all that.

We can cross our fingers.

That Happy Pants will offer sandwiches and salads and healthy fare could be a very good thing.

We wish them all the best.
