Wed., Oct. 19: Warbonds Performance by James Leonard
In this 18 minute one man performance, James Leonard energetically drives notions of collective economics and complex systems theory all in the guise of a Pattonesque military briefing. His Warbond Certificates are a limited edition artwork that plays with notions of currency and crowdfunding. Leonard hopes to one day use the profits from the sale of these prints to someday fund the production of a larger more expensive artwork comprised of 100,000 custom plastic toy soldiers.
The prints themselves employ to artistic ends many security features commonly reserved for certificates of authenticity, checks and currency such as microprinting and holographic foils.
The performance explores in humorous monologue format the relationships between the Warbond Certificates as works of art, the yet-to-be-produced artwork of 100,000 toy soldiers, crowd funding in specific and social economics in general. Signed and numbered Warbond Certificate prints will be made available following the performance for the price of $40 each, including tax.
