New books for children from preschool to Grade 6, including many classics and award-winners
Are you looking for some great books for your kids, or perhaps for holiday gifts? For the next week, Fork + Pencil is hosting the Children’s Book Fair at Cobble Hill’s PS 29, on Henry Street between Baltic and Kane, through Wednesday.
The fair features an impressive selection of high-quality, new kids books for ages from pre-K to 6th grade, and including some adult books as well. A big selection of classics and Caldecott Award winners are represented, not to mention Harry Potter, Star Wars, graphic novels, middle school books for advanced readers, early chapter books (there are many) and all the kids’ favorites.
Alex Grabcheski, owner of Fork + Pencil consignment (antiques, jewelry, art) toy and kids’ book store, selected the books, and it’s really an impressive and inviting selection of quality titles. About $60,000 worth of books are available; 40 percent of the proceeds go to benefit the PTA of PS 29.
The books sell for normal retail price, and most fall into the $3.99 to $20 range.
Grabcheski says if you are looking for a particular book, he can order it for you and the profit will benefit the fundraiser.
“For instance if you are looking for the latest Eugenides, we can get it for you,†Grabcheski said.
Jeffrey Eugenides wrote The Virgin Suicides and won a Pulitzer for Middlesex, and just came out with The Marriage Plot.
