Summer Art for Kids

L’atelier Summer Art Program for Kids: Muriel Guépin Gallery, at Bergen between Court and Smith streets. The gallery also offers excellent adult art classes.

L’atelier enriches a child’s knowledge of art while exploring a wide variety of materials. The ambition is to develop children’s creativity and to have them think of themselves as young artists.

The summer program at L’Atelier is a hands-on art program. Children work with art educators who are also professional artists. On occasion, guests teach a specific medium, including painting, print making, photography, street art graffiti, sculpture and drama.

> Each session is limited to 10 children with age from 6 – 11 years old.
> Sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday to Friday.
> Weekly fee is $325, with a $25 registration fee for new students.

Space is limited.

Session I: July 4 – July 8: We are New Yorkers!

Not only are they going to look at New York Artists but they are going to learn why New York was the center of the Art World for many years. In this class they will create pieces that represent their New York Pride.

Session II: July 11 – July 15: The Art of Portraits

In this class children will learn how to create their own portraits. They will learn techniques on drawing from life and basics of anatomy. Looking at various historical and contemporary artists for inspiration, your young artists will find new ways of creating their portraits.

Session III: July 18 – July 22: Animal Dynasty

This class will be an adventure into the world of animals. they will use animals as inspiration for prints, patterns and portraits. They will look at animals in art from illustrations in books to work done on canvas.

Session IV: July 25 – July 29: Art with Character

In this class they are going to look at how symbols and text are used in art. Looking at work from Dadaism to today they will explore everything from collage to creating billboards.

Session V: August 1 – August 5: Water Works

This week will be filled with projects and activities based on the theme of ‘water’. In the class they will explore various mediums from watercolor to ink. They will look at what floats, fly’s over and lives in the ocean, seas and rivers. For inspiration they will look at work created by the Hudson River painters, Cezanne and other various artists.

Session VI: August 8 – August 12: Art Stars

This week they will look at major art stars including Andy Warhol, Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Damien Hirst and Murakami. Together they will look at how these artists pushed art beyond limits. They will learn about various materials and techniques and use them to create dynamic pieces of their own.

Session VII: August 15 – August 19: Magical Art

This week they will learn how art can become magical. Through the exploration of different materials they will discover another side of art and look at artists that combine magic and art. They will play with various mediums and crafts.

Session VIII: August 22 – August 26: Art Beat

In this class they will look at how music effects art as well as different artists that are inspired through music. Your young artist will learn how to use art to create their own noise and rhythm. They will have fun with colors and various lines.

Class Policies

Payment Policies: You must register your child before attending any classes. Weekly session fee is $325. Registration fee for new students is $25. Payments are due the first day of each session.

Refund policy: Refunds will only be given up to two weeks before the first day of the session. Otherwise, there are no refunds.

Make-up policy: Due to the nature of their courses and small class size, there are no make-ups.

Class cancellation policy: In the event that they cancel your registered class, you will be notified as soon as possible and refunded.
