C.G. Library Fundraiser

By Erin Behan

Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Not loving your local library is a bit like not loving a cute puppy. Who wouldn’t profess a love of libraries (or puppies)? However, while it’s easy to coo in passing, it’s harder to put the work in to grow a successful branch (or raise a successful pooch).

Here’s something easy you can do to help the Carroll Gardens Library: Join with Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library on its Love Your Library Day book sale, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will be held at the library at 396 Clinton Street at Union Street.

The fundraiser will offer deals on thousands of books and a chance to enjoy free entertainment, such as arts and crafts and music from Karen K and the Jitterbugs. Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman, a former schoolteacher and librarian, will do a reading. A bake sale will keep the munchies at bay.

Another aspect to the day is the silent auction with signed historical novels and services from area businesses. Participants can bid in the online component now http://www.32auctions.com/organizations/1461/auctions/1587.

Friends of the Carroll Gardens Library recently signed its charter. The group’s mission is to support the library by fundraising and to help make the Carroll Gardens branch a center of the community with programs for children, youth and adults year-round.

The group holds monthly meetings, to which the public is invited. The website is http://friendsofcglibrary.blogspot.com/.
