Don’t fight the snow–embrace it! Today at Prospect Park, in the Nethermead valley, the city and some ski resorts are hosting a free snow-sports festival. Kids and adults alike can test out cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and check out a ski/snowboard competition. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and lasts till 4 p.m.
Entertainment and free food also provided.
Here’s a run-down of activities:
Snow Field
Ski, snowshoe, or play in the snow! Head to the Lake Placid Snow Field and strap on a pair of cross-country skis or snowhshoes provided by ORDA. Create a snow sculpture with friends or bring a sled and enjoy the natural terrain! Lines for skiing and snowshoeing will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Exact times subject to change).
“Learn to” Area
Free lessons – equipment provided!
Lean the basics of skiing and snowboarding. Mountain Creek will be providing free equipment and lessons for all ages. All you need to do is show up read to learn and have fun. You’ll be tackling double black diamond trails in no time!
Red Bull Butter Cup
Bring your board, butter up, and cut loose!
Red Bull Butter Cup is a national contest series that showcases creativity and technical flatland trickery. Pro and Am divisions, riders compete on multi-featured custom pads, laying down their best bag of tricks in a head-to-head format event. Winners take home the Butter Cup trophy and an arm full of new gear.
Pre-registration for the Red Bull Butter Cup is full. If you want to participate, show up at Nethermead Saturday morning at 11:30 to see if any space is available.
Winter Market
Snack and sip free samples!
If you get hungry, head over to the Pride of New York Winter Market for some free samples and refreshments from local producers that you may see at Grand Army Plaza.
