Dub Dance Night

By Alexandra Glorioso

Thurs., Feb. 10, 8 p.m.: Cottonmouth (aka Olly Edgecombe), April White, Subatomic Sounds System, and Stand Up Hungry Dance Company will keep your feet moving happily at The Bell House. Cottonmouth is a young dubstep producer that lives in the heart of the England’s South West countryside in a small picture postcard village known as Cheddar just outside of Bristol. When he is not climbing the gorge and eating the finest of Cheddar Cheese he is sat at his computer producing savage basslines and meticulous drum beats.

Cottonmouth started when he was 14 producing dnb at school on a computer. When he was 18 he was sick of the screen, penniless and living in the country with no Internet. The only people who could enjoy his music were friends and the cows in the field outside his window.

Six years later he got a laptop and started over again, playing with electro/balkan/techno/breakbeat/jazz and of course dubstep.

Since then Cottonmouth has started to become a known name globally with remixes and original songs played by the likes of Kissy Sellout on Radio 1.

Founded at the turn of the millennium, Subatomic Sound System brought together musicians, producers, DJs and visual artists from a variety of backgrounds and traditions primarily based in New York City and Brooklyn in an effort to adapt 1970’s Jamaican sound to live performance. In the fall of 2008, Subatomic Sound System garnered international attention for a limited edition vinyl 12″ featuring their collaboration with Vienna’s Dubblestandart and dub reggae inventor Lee “Scratch” Perry. Subatomic Sound System hosts a weekly radio shows on 91.5fm.

Stand Up Hungry is a dance group dedicated to raw, sensual, athletic, humanistic movement. They will perform during selected tracks.

New York born artist Kurt Ritta, aka “VJ Krunch”, will be provide visuals with his award-winning experimental films,

commercials, and music videos.
