Burlesque Nutcracker

By Alexandra Glorioso
Company XIV Presents Nutcracker Rouge

Through Jan. 9, 8 p.m.: At the 303 Bond Theater, in the Gowanus area, Company XIV presents Nutcracker Rouge, a sparkling reimagining of the beloved Nutcracker tale told with erotic, sensual and opulent flair. From the twisted mind of director/choreographer Austin McCormick comes this Baroque-Burlesque confection of dance, theatre, and sumptuous design. For ages 16 and over.

The New York Times has called McCormick’s dances “sensuous marvels.”

Company XIV is donating half of the box office proceeds from Nutcracker Rouge to the ALI FORNEY CENTER, which provides safe shelter for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) youth in New York City. As many as 25 percent of these teens are rejected by their families, and many end up homeless on the streets. Homeless LGBT teens are more likely than straight homeless teens to be subjected to violence on the streets, and in the homeless shelter system. They suffer from inordinate rates of mental illness, trauma, HIV infection and substance abuse.

Ticket Prices: $25 – $40
