Wraps, bagels, crab cake sandwich, wine, ice cream and more in Brooklyn Bridge Park

For all the fun I had in the newly expanded Brooklyn Bridge Park last year, I desperately wanted there to be more food. Things are looking up on that front with a total of four restaurants announcing they will operate from Pier 1. Ditch Plains Drop-In already is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Ditch Plains, a spin-off of the Manhattan oyster bar and fish shack, keeps things simple in the Brooklyn park operation. For one, there are no oysters. At breakfast you will find a $4 bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, in addition to muffins, yogurt and oatmeal. Lunch onward brings wraps and sandwiches. The Ditch Dog (a hot dog smothered in mac and cheese), $5, and lobster roll, $12, are sure to be hits, as is the spot’s ice cream sandwich, the Ditch Wich, $4.
According to Ellen Ryan, the vice president of strategic partnerships at Brooklyn Bridge Park Strategic Development Corporation, the other three food and drink vendors should open this weekend.
Visitors and vino-lovers can look forward to the re-opening of Brooklyn Bridge Wine Bar (back from last year), which will operate from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. Calexico is also opening a stand, giving park-goers a chance to nosh on the beloved joint’s California-style Mexican food Sunday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Blue Marble trike plans on appearing weekends in May, as well as Thursday nights for Celebrate Brooklyn (May 12, 19, 26). The ice cream will be dished out on Pier 1 Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Find the trike at Pier 6 on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
