By Erin Behan

New Italian restaurant Gancio Rosso is open for dinner in Red Hook (lunch to follow) at Commerce and Van Brunt streets. Smith-N-9 Pizza to open at (you guessed it) the corner of Smith and Ninth streets, home of the short-lived Il Cantuccio. Pardon Me for Asking

Newly opened Bourgeois Pig Brooklyn in Carroll Gardens starts up its half-off wine bottles discount on Monday and Tuesdays this Monday, Jan. 9.

Char No. 4’s mid-week Wednesday deal for January is a hanger steak with rosemary-garlic mashed potatoes with a Manhattan for just $28.

Colonie has a new cocktail for the new year: its blood orange margarita is made with agave nectar and smoked paprika salt. YUM.

A friendly reminder that Watty & Meg has a $10 burger (beef or veggie), fries and canned beer deal every Monday.

We missed the L Magazine’s list of Brooklyn’s 10 Best New Restaurants, but it’s a good one with seven of the 10 in our neck of the woods: Brucie, Van Horn, Colonie, Dubuque, Shelsky’s, Rucola and Littleneck all made the list. L Magazine

How do super rich, A-list celebrities celebrate New Year’s Eve? If they are Jay-Z and Beyonce, by having dinner at Buttermilk Channel, of course. Twitter and awesome photo from Gothamist

Food Events

Dawn Casale and David Crofton of Boerum Hill bakery’s One Girl Cookies have two upcoming events to promote their new cookbook, One Girl Cookies: Recipes for Cakes, Cupcakes, Whoopie Pies, and Cookies from Brooklyn’s Beloved Bakery (Clarkson Potter), which goes on sale Jan. 10.  The first is at Cobble Hill’s BookCourt on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. and the second is on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at powerHouse Arena in Dumbo. Speaking of Dumbo, there’s going to be a second One Girl Cookie location there at 33 Main Street real soon.

Though there are only two restaurants from Brooklyn on the list, NYC Restaurant Week reservations are open for business. Reserve now for $24.07 lunches and $35 dinners from Jan. 16 through Feb. 10 (Monday through Friday) at more than 300 New York City restaurants.

There are two not-to-be missed Prime Meats special dinners this month. The first is the New York State Food and Wine event on Jan. 17. at 7 p.m. For that, you’ll need to pony up $95 for a six-course meal curated by the Franks. The second is the Olio Nuovo dinner on Jan. 24, also at 7 p.m., celebrating the arrival of the 2011 unfiltered olive oil—“ripe, fruity, green and peppery” according to the Franks. The $85 dinner features ingredients (and wines) that show off the fruit of the vine. Email RSVP@frankspm.com for reservations to either and specify which you’re interested in.
