People are going nuts over NY Waterway’s East River Ferry, which connects Dumbo to Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Manhattan at 34th Street, as well as Pier 11 at South Street Seaport. The ferry launched Monday and is free till June 24. It’s a bonanza. Apparently crowds of more than 100 have cued up for the ferry service, in Manhattan and W’burg, causing delays. The ferries are reaching the Coast Guard allowed capacity, according to NY Waterway.
This weekend, if you are hoping to check it out, expect delays and you may not be able to board if there’s too many people, NY Waterways officials have said.
Once the free for all is over, it’ll be nice to have early morning to 8:30 p.m. service to the hipster zones of Brooklyn, as well as to Manhattan.
The Ferry also features recreational service on Friday afternoons to Pier 6 and Governors Island.  All East River Ferries are bike friendly.
Fares are $4 per trip to and from any terminal and $12 for a hop-on-hop-off day pass. Â There is a $1 surcharge for bikes. Â Monthly passes are also available.
